About us
Our History
Metcalfe's Home Decor is based in South Shields. It was founded by Anthony Metcalfe circa 1947. His son Walter followed him into the business in the 1960s. Both were professional painters and decorators. Walter was also a professional sign-writer, and did all shop signage himself.
There were four shops back in the 1980s/1990s. Wallpaper was very fashionable then. Also, coal fires in homes meant that changing wallpaper became a regular occurrence. Wallpaper popularity dipped but has since made a resurgence.
Metcalfe's is a name synonymous with home decortaing materials in the South Shields borough, for generations.
